Minnesota Power continues its centennial celebration this summer by participating in several community events.

The Company will host a Festival Tent at Portage Park in Cohasset Saturday, June 24, in conjunction with the Blackwater Barge Festival. Tours of Boswell Energy Center will be offered to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants must park their vehicles at Portage Park, from which MP will then provide shuttle bus service to Boswell. The bus will depart from the park at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

MP will also offer tours of our Little Falls Hydro facilities to the public June 24 as part of the Little Falls Dam Festival. Those wanting to take the tour must go to MP’s Festival Tent in Maple Island Park on the east side of the river, from which MP will provide shuttle bus service to the Little Falls Hydro facilities. Tours will be conducted about every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., though they’ll stop temporarily between 11 a.m. and noon, while the festival parade is occurring.

The “History Train” will bring history directly to Hoyt Lakes in July in a fully renovated rail car, carrying a new exhibit about St. Louis County and Minnesota Power’s rich history in the region. Sponsored by MP, St. Louis County, the Lake Superior Railroad Museum and the St. Louis County Historical Society, this free exhibit will delight young and old. In connection with our centennial celebration, the train will be located at Laskin Energy Center and open for public tours. People who want to see the History Train must park at the Hoyt Lakes Arena parking lot, from which MP will provide shuttle bus service to Laskin on this schedule: Friday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At all three events, MP will show the 11-minute Company history program and historical MP equipment will be on display. Regarding the Boswell and Little Falls tours: Children must be 13 or older to tour Boswell and 12 or older to tour Little Falls hydro. Participants must wear sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes. Those touring Boswell must also have the ability to climb five flights of stairs. No picture taking is permitted inside our facilities.
